Barcode Requirements

A few retailers have specific barcoding requirements. If possible, it is wise to check your Retailers' barcode and packaging requirements prior to purchasing your barcodes, and before printing your packaging.

Unfortunately it can be difficult to get clear barcoding requirements from certain retailers, or if you will be supplying your barcodes to a wide range of retailers.

The safest thing is to print your barcode carefully and ensure it is the right size, and the edges of the bars are very sharp.

If in doubt, you can get a verification report of your barcode artwork before printing. You can also get a verification report of the final printed barcode.

VERIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Some retail companies in Australia, NZ & USA require the printed barcodes on all products that come into their store to be verified. This is a test scan of the barcode that generates a report showing how easily the barcode image scans. If you require a barcode verification report for your product, we can arrange it through an independent GS1-certified verification company. SPECIFIC LIMITATIONS

There are two companies that we know of in Australasia that will not accept our barcode numbers. They are -
- Woolworths Australia
- Super Cheap Autos
As far as we are aware, ALL other companies in Australia and New Zealand will accept our barcode numbers. We talk regularly with our customers, and listen carefully to see if there are any acceptance problems. Hence we can advise that these two companies won't accept our numbers (because they have very specific barcode requirements which effectively exclude our numbers). These are the only companies we know if in Australasia with these restrictions.
